I only managed to complete one of today's tasks.

1. I guess i made the required amendments to the flyers.. for both front and back page. but just as i changed the measurements the entire flyer's scale went out of whack. Measurements can't be right. My default measurements is A5 size, but the ones i got is 90mm x 166m. -.- Confused.
So i didn't get to email after all.

2. The emitter test didn't get started due to number 3 not yet finished.

3. I managed to resimulate the shards explosion, with the explosion having a 70 magnitude this time, and the ground plane repositioned lower. Then i exported the necessary objects out to RF.
Up to this point, simple as ABC. Everything smooth.

The realflow part was the problem. (Self rant now, don't read if you don't want to.) Before this, i simulated the RF part using a wrong technique... Well, not exactly wrong cuz it worked, but less flexible than the "correct" technique.

The situation: wanted to simulate a slowmotion water splash. So the first time i raised the FPS to 4000, and tweaked the other settings accordingly (attractors, gravity, mesh, fill obj). The process took about 2 weeks due to numerous crashes.

The flaw: with an FPS of 4000, the speed of the water splash is fixed. Now the "correct" technique would be to use a BINARY LOADER. Keeping it short, a binary loader is able to load a normal FPS simulation of, lets say 30fps and TIME STRETCH it to how long/short you want it, giving me slightly more control over the water.

So i followed the previous settings exactly, but changed the FPS to 30 instead. To my horror... the entire simulation did not behave at all like the previous one. So i redo the whole stupid thing.

After few hours of tweaking all over again expecting to get 2 week's worth of result in one night more and more problems showed up. The last straw was when something crazy happened and the water started to EXPLODE itself. I mean, the explosion was 10 times crazier than the one i originally set. I removed ALL attractors (attractors are the "forces" that pull/push water particles) BUT STILL IT KEPT ON GOING.

WTH!! I TRIED EVERYTHING BUT NOTHING CAN STOP THE STUPID WATER.

Can't sleep tonight... whole day wasted.

I dunno what's with my infatuation with basses. haha. It started when i picked up the bass guitar in church once, and played the very simple root notes of each chord, immediately i felt a different vibe in the atmosphere. Can't really describe it, but it's different than when i played the keyboard. Feels good to hear the growly burpy sounds, it so solid and heavy.. Awesome!

Often thought about learning another new instrument... electric guitar or bass. I like both instruments, as they can be very versatile to play, but i don't really like metal music... so electric guitar is out of the question for now.

I also don't plan to be a jack of all trades. If i'm going to learn bass guitar i plan to be darn good at it. And get myself into a band.

Still... hopefully if I managed to land a good job after i graduate... with the appropriate circumstances.. who knows... I'm going to own my very first instrument!

(so far everything else has been paid for by my parents. No more la.)

Here's what's been keeping me company while taking a break from work... or it could be the other way round... work keeping me company while i take a break from hours and hours of RESIDENT EVIL 5 =p

I've only started playing RE's 4th version... where the zombies seem to have 'evolved' into half humans. That is, they can use weapons, charge at you, etc. The gameplay of RE is really something. It's neither a first nor third person shooter..... but utilizes an 'over the shoulder' view. Which can get a little confusing sometimes once you change character.

Did i mention that you can play COOPERATIVELY!?!? :))))))))))))))))))
Twice the fun, gents. You can link 2 pc via LAN and have at it.

The best part is the very awesomely detailed graphics... coming from PS3, we don't expect any less. And the facial expressions are all mo-capped. Mocap is short for motion capture.

They did something like this for Halo too. Technology these days....

Yup, that is the first time i received this error when i try to render. No memory liao arrrr!! And Maya keep on crashing nonstop.

3Gb RAM, u gotta be kidding me.

Need to redo the whole sequence again to reduce the space & resources. My realflow particle bin files total to 11.8GB... and the mesh build takes up around 30Gb (i never got to find out since Lucky stepped on the power switch and shut down the render halfway)

ANGRY... hopefully by 9pm i can start re-rendering again. Clock is ticking..... =.=

Anyhow, we had one of the craziest picha snapping birthdays of all time, you know there's bound to be a photography free-for-all when 3 DSLR totting lunatics are on scene :D

My all time favourite : the Sigma 50mm 1.4 fixed portrait lens.

Basically... why i love this lens so much is cuz i prefer to take pictures of people instead of static objects or landscapes... and this lens is perfect for the job.

The real power of portrait lens is its extremely shallow depth of field. It makes a picture look sentimental... and plain Awesome. It's unable to zoom (fixed lens), but the stunning shots it produces more than makes up for this handicap.

Hooray.... i packed my work/play desktop to Xian's house. So now i'm gonna be at his place everyday, while my own home is now completely void of any entertainment.

Youth Christmas planning is so chi kek... looks like this year is going to be an either really good one, or a failure. I'm in Publicity!!!!

I kinda like computing at Xians and then back to my house for some non-electrical stimuli for the rest of the night. OK that came out weird. haha.

I think i'm slowly turning into a zombie.. up all night and ending up smashed the next day seriously messes with my biological clock, my stomache feels funny and there's a slight heady buzz. Been going on for a week plus already.

It's the middle of semester break, but I'm already starting to prepare for any "unforseen circumstances" that might impede the progress of our final project. I've never been this hardworking when the final deadline is in December... gee i've never been this hardworking even 3 months before SPM.

I guess i am kinda proud of myself- but extreme obssesive compulsiveness like this needs to be kept in check i guess.

Back to the final project, ah well if it wasn't for me being the team leader i most definitely won't be sitting here typing out this post. Heck, i'd probably either be snoring or gaming right now. I realize being a leader, i need to give extra commitment as well as leading by my actions. Hopefully His wisdom will guide me along the way to prepare for the inevitable bumpy road ahead.

Just a little preview of my 4 days of progress so far - a little experiment and playing around with 3d settings. This little blimey bugger JPEG took me 55 mins to render. It is far from perfect, as the tiny glass chunks got blurred. Might be the min/max/trace depth of reflections, or refraction settings, or the light and even environment placement...... TOO many factors.

Basically i was spending these 2 days JUST hypershading and waiting for test renders. It got so bad until i started to read online manga just to pass time. (I started at Naruto Episode1, nyahahahaha)

I guess i should feel worried about the FYP. But at least i'm doing something about it. So it's not so bad.

Today i baked a delicious H2o cake... flavored with sweet tangy mia_material x and the 3d particle meshes gives it a nice blobby flavor, yum yum! Does my cake look pweety??

Ok i'm going crazy. I've been staring at water the entire day, and the meshes were SO HEAVY that when i scrub through the animation by 1 frame only i risk a 90% chance of Maya crashing.. accompanied by that dreadful noise "Dong Dong" and the error message... seriously i'm going to have a phobia soon.

OH nooooezzz... !

I don't think a quad core can do much better... sigh. I hate you 3D!!!

I'm a really lazy person.

Since young i've always been lazy bag of curi tulangness... I'd say i was the most hardworking during primary school where the discipline there was akin to Nazi concentration camps (chinese school mah heeee). Secondary school felt myself slowly sucked into the government standard of discipline, which was like heaven compared to my primary school. I reached rock-bottom when i got only 1A for PMR... oh the shame.

And then college. AHHH college.

In a place where you can wear what you want, skipping classes are the norm, and where my course is INFAMOUS for having the most easiest exams ever. Playing for the whole week and then finding out that we were able to rush and complete the assignment at the eleventh hour made me even MORE lazy.

I'm so lazy that i don't even want to customize my blog.

I'm so lazy that when i was on fire for doing tutorials in the afternoon, took a nap, woke up and now.... totally lost the passion. And blogging about it. What to do??? The guy's voice can put me to sleep better than choloform!

I find it ironic that the sermon today was about "Change" haha...

My M-Audio Oxygen 49

These few days are like an early Christmas, first my dad bought a zoom lens for the Nikon, the next day he got the new portrait lens... and the 3rd day i went and got myself a new toy...

Days of trying to use the qwerty keyboard to play Garageband at the Mac lab is finally over, now i have my OWN REAL keyboard muahahaha...

... except that it's not really a keyboard.

The Oxygen 49 is a MIDI controller which has 49 keys. Unlike a keyboard, it does not produce sound, but sends data instead. It calculates the velocity, what key you press, the duration, the pressure... and sends it to the pc. Well, something like that.

So if you hook up the MIDI controller to a set of speakers it does not work. It cant! Not without a software to interpret the signals and sends out the audio output. So its obviously cheaper to get this than a real keyboard... and since my budget isnt' very high... well.... lol..

The sound quality isn't that bad also.... better than quite a lot of entry level keyboards but still sounds a little fake. At the moment i'm trying to get Dimension Pro - it's got realistic live recorded sound samples yea... n i'm still a total noob at this T.T

On another note, i'm following the progress of MACC investigation... looks like the anti-corruption guys have some real shit on their hands now wahahaa. Also, the H1N1 scare seems to be easing just slightly... hope everyone is okay and remember to keep safe and hygenic!

Stayed at Andy's house for 3 days... we planned to go Putrajaya to take pics but then haih didn't feel like hanging around once we reached there.

On the way there in Andy's mighty awesome powderful Honda Civic. The scenery really looks like that when he's driving!! He's a speed yao guai oh oh..

I dunno what building is this.... the arch looks like it's built halfway then stopped lol.

This is the High Court me thinks. Really impressive.

Oh yeaaaa her new album is out!!! "Superficial Gossip" I haven't listened to all tracks yet.. but kinda expecting it to lose out to Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana. Her music sounds very "safe". Still, Ringo weaves magic :) With her previous albums forging through all the mediocre Jpop into another realm altogether, she's got class. And she's badass.

New combo

Today i discovered a new alternative chord substitute!

Lets take this simple chord progression (in key of G Major): CM, DM, Bm, Em.

Instead of playing DM, for a jazzy substitute i could try F#M7. (F#M7 sounds very... diminished and makes Bm sound extra sexy)

And replace Em with E Major. (Cuz E Major sounds sexier too)

So now it's CM, F#M7, Bm, EM.

Full chord progression now goes like this: CM,F#M7, Bm, EM, Am, DM, G, G7..... and repeat once more but end in G.

Songs that fit this progression really well is Yuki No Hana's bridge section, and Gu Tin Lok's Monica chorus section. Most of other songs with the default CM, DM, Bm, Em won't sound nice with this, so note to self: use sparingly.

So...
Went to lifegroup today since i'm on roster for a practice. I thought i was supposed to play for today's session, so i had to FFK my team who were doing the photo narrative assignment. Reached there at 2.30 then since Waikin was missing in action i filled in the bassist position, wahahahahahah! In the end i was switching between keyboard n bass, like some freak hybrid.

And now 2 fingers wanna patah from all the finger picking. (or maybe i just didn't know how to do it properly) I just realized that bassists gotta have fingers made of well, steel! Dang, even i didn't have to torture my fingers like that on the piano.

We ended at 5.30pm. And thats' how my day went :)

From kid to technically adult, just like that... snap of a finger, blink of an eye.

In another magical blink i'd find myself in a hospital bed with wrinkles. Isn't it weird that so many years can just dissapear without you even knowing it? If i die, how will the world think of me.

I didn't even contribute anything great. Just coasting along through life, avoiding the high risk areas and playing it safe. Average exam results, average life, below average social skills. Lmao.

When i die, i'll definitely won't say something like "I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, i have kept the faith", cause my life is as just about exciting as a bowl of salad. AND i know what it means, tq very much.

Just only after one day, i'm about to just give up. GAHH......

was doing nonstop yesterday on the H2H motion, i think i produced 10 seconds. Ten seconds of rough, uninteresting motion. 9 hours = 10 seconds. WTH MAN!!!!

Today, trying to make a tree shake and the leaves just pop out.. took me bloody 5 hours and still i havent got it right.

AND i dunno whether HE will approve or not!!!

I hate my low patience level..... too easily frustrated. I have no more stamina, %^&*(!@!@#*
Sigh. I'm the type of person that does things fast, with results that i'm satisfied with. *EDITED*

Hence, i spend less time to do assignments. Hence, i'm easily frustrated when i found out that i'm stuck/ hit a block..

Anyway, today is a special historical day for me - completing my jog circuit between my house and around Kelab Dahrul Ehsan. 36 minutes and 42 seconds, woooO!!!! And i didn't even eat breakfast!

yes, i admit i'm a 21 year old uncle. I don't play basketball, football, pingpong, badminton. I suck at most sports. But.....

AHH I LOVE JOGGING. You can't get any more Zen than that.

Nearly threw up just now, lol. It's the lactic acid build up(something that works like nitrous in car, giving the body extra glucose when the muscles start to lack oxyen) the problem with lactic acid is that it also makes you want to vomit after you stop running.

An interesting fact is that some runners have reported that their coaches would keep a bucket at the side of the track for runners who threw up or had the dry heaves. If you didn't stop at the bucket he'd think you weren't giving it 100% effort.

Yeah, I think basically if you didnt' pass out/fall down and die at the end like Pheidippides, you didn't give 100%. what a load of crap.

As of 25th July, which was last Saturday, i had my first ever REAL freelance job! The Cogent Kratos job isnt real, since i'm not doing all the work. hihihihi. So happy. Well... at least i'm getting myself some dough to save? spend? donate?

Gambateh to myself. Thanks to this job i'm busier than usual, to the extent of delaying some assignments. I believe its a sacrifice worth doing, nothing is more precious than experience.

This post is really delayed by one week plus, heheh. So Shawn invited a few of us to join him for a video shoot at this studio in the city centre. It's next to this freaky DOTA game house thing. Me, shah, andy, loong, and yen went along. Oh and Byrn too. Our happy go lucky lecturer.

That's the wall painting decorations in the studio corridors. I think it makes it look like a friggin kindergarten.

After shooting was done, which took approximately 3 hours? Lol... reminds me of the time when i did a short intern at Channel V with Michelle working the teleprompter, we shot for 6 hours i think.. at least i got to see Marion wee hee.. she's really good at VJ-ing, there were very few mistakes she did compared to the guys. So i loved it when we did her sessions.. it was the least frustrating and less painful. Frankly i think generally women are better at this than men!

All in all, it was a good educational trip :)
